Fire and EMS Updates

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 8 am to 11 am, NORA has scheduled an outage for the District 3 area ONLY. District 3 consists of Los Brazos, Brazos, Ensenada, Plaza Blanca, Heron, Rutheron, Los Ojos, TA, and El Vado. The outage is scheduled to repair equipment at the TA substation. The outage will only affect the areas listed above. 

Make your appointment to donate at the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive (public welcome). The blood drive will be held at Lowe’s in Chama on July 21 and Grace Church in Pagosa Springs on July 23.

For all volunteers who would like to train as an EMT basic, a class will be held this fall at Agua Sana near Espanola. The class will be on Wednesday evenings and all day on Saturdays for the duration of the semester. We welcome any existing firefighters who want to expand their training as well as any new volunteers who would like to join the Fire Department only in a medical capacity.

As a volunteer EMT Basic with our department, you would respond to medical emergency calls in the area only if you are available when the call comes in. We receive calls for falls, heart attacks, injuries, stroke, sepsis, car accidents and a variety of other medical conditions. We typically receive about 2-4 calls per month, with most landing on weekends or holidays. Our services are vital in identifying conditions and stabilizing patients, initiating helicopter services and notifying hospitals of what to expect when the patient arrives.
