We welcome all new volunteers! Please join us at our next meeting. You can come to one or a few meetings first to see what we’re about before you decide to fill out our application to become an official member of the department.

Fire Fighters

We are always in need of individuals to learn our equipment and drag and direct hoses at a fire. The average age in our department is roughly 70 years old, so we have positions for men and women with any experience level, from absolute beginner to fire fighters with years of experience under their belts. We exist solely because of our volunteers. Our response time is roughly 20 minutes to a local emergency, and without our volunteers, the next closest fire department (Tierra Amarilla) will respond in an hour plus if they are even available. All training to expand your fire fighting knowledge is provided locally or sponsored by the department, including yearly (optional) training classes in Socorro.

If we don’t fight our own fires, we have to assume that no one else is coming.

Emergency Medical Services

We currently have 2 licensed Emergency Medical Technicians and 1 licensed Emergency Medical Responder. Our EMS department is in need of additional medical personnel. While the classes to become an EMR or EMT require a high level of commitment consisting of an entire semester driving to Taos or Espanola several times a week, for our dedicated volunteers who want to make that commitment, all travel and expenses are provided. Occasionally classes are offered locally at La Clinica in Tierra Amarilla and when that happens we let our fire fighters know so anyone interested can join closer to home.
